Projection with buttons is based on the musical structures of African music, particularly the thumb piano (mbira) music of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. A triptych of three blue abstract projections, three loops of mbira music, three blue buttons on the wall. Each loop is of a slightly different length and slips in and out of phase with the other two. By pressing the buttons the user can restart any one of the three music/projection combinations, thus setting into motion a new series of phase relationships between sound and vision. Projection with Buttons has been shown in Kettles Yard Cambridge as part of the 'Noise' exhibition (Jan 2000) at the Lisbon Video Festival (April 2000) and in the OneDotZero festival, Hoxton (summer 2000).
